Super Football: Bhaichung Bhutia with his old striker partners the legendary IM Vijayan and Jo Paul Ancheri.

'Super Soccer' match is the game that will be played in Kolkata on 23th of January 2012, where few of the world's biggest names will set foot against their Indian counter-parts.


This is a part of a 20 country tour as envisaged by Bhaichung to raise money for charity. It starts off in January with Nepal and India the two countries followed by  Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in February and so on, with the touring World XI. The event will not only be limited to the match but will also include a small clinic for young footballers on the morning of 23rd January. College and School teams have been invited from all over India with teams coming from as far off places as Delhi and Siliguri to participate in the camp. Bhutia said : "In the evening there will be an Auction Dinner on Invitation where the football stars will auction their kits and memorabilia to raise money." Bhutia adds  "The money collected will go to FPAI and also to a NGO, Hillary Foundation. FPAI will use the money in creating a fund to help out retired footballers. "



Speaking about the match in particular, Bhutia was candid in saying " I want to beat the World XI team even though this is a friendly match" and what excited him most about the match was partnering up with his old striker partner the legendary IM Vijayan. He asserted "IM Vijayan and Jo Paul Ancheri had already begun earnestly training for this match."

Bhaichung confirmed some of the names to feature for the Indian XI which includes the likes of Alvito D Cunha, Rennedy Singh besides Vijayan and Ancheri. Sunil Chhetri too could feature as a late substitute for the match if deemed fit. He also said 2-3 filmstars could play a part in the match as he wanted to increase interest but in order to not take away the competitive edge, he would limit it to about 2 or 3. Shyam Thapa will coach the team while Sumit Mukherjee will be the manager.



Bhaichung was candid in asking everyone to support the Indian Team and root for them to beat the Superstars XI. He also welcomed everyone to visit the Salt Lake Stadium on the 22nd January where the Indian team will train.

In order to further increase interest he made it clear that all Players who have played international matches for India will be provided VVIP tickets to the match. Moreover all I-league players from all clubs will be provided complimentary VIP passes for the match.

For the spectators tickets will be available in denominations of Rs. 300 and Rs. 500 from a variety of outlets in Kolkata including Aqua Java outlets and Krossword outlets besides Salt Lake Stadium itself. Tickets would also be available online through Zomato.
